A Walmart employee in Hesperia, California has been accused of starting multiple fires at the store in a scheme to get out of work. Authorities have identified the employee as 24-year-old Kevin Jermaine Smith, a Victorville resident.

The fire occurred Sunday night, March 24, at the Walmart store located in the 13400 block of Main Street.

Investigators say video surveillance from the store showed fires inside and outside the Walmart being started by Smith who was scheduled to work later that night.

Deputies found Smith at a nearby parking lot and he was taken into custody. Investigators say that Smith confessed to starting the fires so he wouldn't have to work. His bail was set at $50,000. He's scheduled to appear in court on March 26.
