According to multiple sources, Retired Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is urging policy makers to increase funding for UFO research, believing that there is enough evidence to warrant a deeper look - even if he is doubtful on the topic.
“I personally don’t know if there exists little green men other places, I kind of doubt that, but I do believe that the information we have indicates we should do a lot more study,” Reid added “We have hundreds and hundreds of people that have seen the same thing — something in the sky, it moves a certain way.”
The statements came before a scheduled meeting with an unnamed Senator about setting up a method for military service members to report their personal sightings without fear of retribution.
“What we found in the past is that these pilots, when they see something strange like this, they’re prone not to report it for fear that the bosses will think something’s wrong with them, and they don’t get the promotion,” he said. “So, many, many times they don’t say a word to anybody about these strange things.”
“The facts are, they need a place to be able to report this, and that’s what I’m going to work on in a couple of hours, to make sure that somebody I think’s a powerful member in Congress, I want him to be able to sit down and talk to some of these pilots who have seen these things,” stated Reid. “I can arrange this because of the contacts I have with members of the Congress.”
The idea of further research makes sense given the huge numbers of witness accounts related to unidentified aerial phenomena. It's unknown if the meeting was with Senate Minority Whip Richard J. Durbin, ranking member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
Reid was the advocate that led to the Pentagon program to study UFO sightings, which the the New York Times reported on back in December of 2017. He also reiterated that late Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, was entirely on board with the program due to a suspicious aircraft he sighted during his own time as military pilot.
Reid said that "we spent a lot of money, and it was an extremely important study," but the Pentagon has not done enough since that investigation. “Frankly, I think the federal government has done almost nothing to help us with this”
During the interview, Reid added more more tantalizing bit of information when he stated that he has a lot more information about classified operations that have taken place at Area 51, which resides in his home state of Nevada.
“Oh sure, I’ve been to Area 51. I know Area 51. I don’t know if I should say many times, but lots and lots of times. I know Area 51 quite well, I know what they’ve done there,” said Reid. “I don’t know in recent years, of course, but I know what went on there.”
