Deadmau5 to Use Tesla Semi Electric Truck as Mobile Music Studio
Last year, CEO Elon Musk said that his company had found a way to extend the range of the production model of the Tesla Semi electric truck to as much as 600 miles. That seems to be enough for DJ and music producer Deadmau5 who announced that he will travel in a Tesla Semi for his 2021 tour.
The class 8 truck can carry up to 80,000-pounds and is available in several potential range options at prices between $150,000 and $180,000. The truck can accelerate from 0-60 in just 20 seconds carrying a full load. The extended range and reasonable power consumption is possible thanks to an impressive .36 coefficient of drag - comparable to the most aerodynamic SUV's.
Tesla estimates that operational costs work out to $1.26 per mile, allowing owners to save enough in fuel costs to effectively recover the cost of purchase in 2 years. The Tesla semi was supposed to be released this year but was delayed, though reports confirm that it will be available by the end of 2020. Right now there are over 1,000 buyers waiting for the chance to buy the truck after making the $20k + reservation list deposit.
Deadmau5 obviously is a believer in the technology after getting the chance to view a prototype, and will make the semi into a mobile music studio for the tour. He adds that he would like to make the tour bus all electric, but concedes that it will be difficult. The DJ has owned a Tesla car since 2015.
