Laurence Fishburne to Star in 'Rendlesham' UFO Drama Series

According to multiple Hollywood media outlets, A-list actor Laurence Fishburne will star in and executive produce an upcoming series called “Rendlesham” based on the well known UFO sightings which occurred over three nights at Suffolk, UK in December of 1980. The event is often referred to as “Britain’s Roswell.”

The eight part series will tell the tale of the claimed UFO landings outside of RAF Woodbridge, a UK base used by the United States Air Force at the time. Many USAF personnel, including base commander Lieutenant Colonel Charles Halt and two servicemen, described a series of lights which landed just outside the east gate perimeter fence of the base. The location was less than half a mile away in the nearby woods.

Halt later signed a notarized affidavit in which he stated a belief that the lights were extraterrestrial in nature.

The Ministry of Defense refused further investigation into the incident, taking the position that it posed no threat to national security. Many have written off the sighting as a hoax or prank. Others theorize that the lights were military aircraft, natural weather phenomena, or the beam from nearby Orfordness Lighthouse.

As reported by Variety, Fishburne will play Tyrone, a retired American airman who was stationed at the U.S. base during the Cold War. With his wife Carol and son Brock, Tyrone returns to the area to visit Carol’s dying father, and is forced to face events that have haunted him his whole life.

The series is described as a complex family drama which will form the backdrop to the Rendlesham series, it will fast-forward from the height of the Cold War to the year 2020 - the 40th anniversary of the incidents.

Joe Ahearne, known for directing many Doctor Who episodes, will direct and write the series. He said "when Eleventh Hour Films drew my attention to this extraordinary piece of British and American history it pressed all my buttons, and I think it will do the same for a wide audience." Ahearne added: "I'm beyond thrilled this phenomenal and iconic actor will be leading Rendlesham as Tyrone and facing down one of the most notorious UFO mysteries in history,"

Sony-backed UK Indie company Eleventh Hour Films is making the series and Sony Pictures Television will distribute and market the series internationally. This is pretty exciting news for UFO researchers, with Fishburne on board as the main star, a a quality director at the helm - the Rendlesham series should make for really good TV. Producers say they even hope the series will continue to multiple seasons. There is no word yet on when Rendlesham will air.
