Bionics is the study of replacing a limb or body part with an artificial piece that is electronically or mechanically powered. Science-fiction writers have long seen a bionic movement coming. Now bionics has enabled Australian Jason Barnes to become the world's fastest drummer, using a robotic forearm.
When musician Jason Barnes was 22 years old he was severely electrocuted and lost his right hand. Badly burned and at the lowest point in his life, he decided to drag his drum kit out of storage. He taped a drumstick to his bandages, played through the pain, and proved to himself that nothing would stop him from making beautiful music.
