What is Sexy: Gingers

It would appear that redheads, affectionately called gingers, are on the verge of going extinct. Some scientists, like those at an article in The Independent, have speculated that "the gene mutation that yields red hair and pale skin which is more sensitive to light leaves DNA in skill cells more prone to sun damage and cancer, and if predictions of rising temperatures are correct evolution might cause it to regress". This is because things like "red hair and blue eyes are not adapted to a warm climate". In other words, we could be looking at evolution weeding out our precious redheads through natural selection.

But others say not so fast, redheads are not going away anytime soon. It's only a myth because even though red hair is a recessive gene, and recessive genes can die out, it takes hundreds of years to happen. Basically, when a dominant gene meets a recessive one it overtakes it. But those genes don't disappear completely unless everyone who carries that gene dies or fails to reproduce. So while red hair is a rarity, we should see gingers for years to come.

That doesn't mean gingers are not rare: " Only 1-2% of the world's population have red hair, though in Scotland 13% of the population are ginger and 40% are thought to carry the gene". So if you want a real rarity, find your self a girl with red hair and green eyes, a trait equally uncommon. For a look at some green eyed girls, click and read our other post. Otherwise, on with the gingers.
