Guinness: The Best Low Calorie Beer
In case you didn't know, it's St. Patrick's Day. you're probably already making plans for a night out with friends. Everyone is Irish for a day when it comes to St. Paddy's, so your probably going to have a Guinness or three to celebrate the holiday.
The problem is, Guinness tends to be a love it or hate it kind of beer. Whenever we mention our love for the thick Irish stout we get one of two responses: 'I love it too!" or 'how can you drink that stuff?' We love the dark taste, but here today were going to come to the defense of our favorite beer because Guinness is one of the healthiest beers out there.
Guinness is Low in Calories
Sure there are some lower calorie options out there, but not that taste as good. Guinness has only 15 more calories than a Bud Light and contains only 10 grams of carbs which means it's not going to wreck your diet.
Guinness is Lower in Alcohol Content
Even though it might feel like it packs an Irish punch, Guinness actually is on the lower end of the scale when it comes to alcohol content. Our favorite beer contains only 4.2% alcohol compared to popular beers like Budweiser and Heineken with 5.0%, or New Belgium Fat Tire with 5.2%. The lower alcohol content just might mean you can stay sober and avoid a DUI on the way home.
Guinness is Good
Probably the thickest beer around, Guinness gets its pillow like foam head from nitrogen delivery, where as other beers rely solely on CO2. That's why Guinness has such a velvety smooth feel in the mouth and plenty of effervescence (that's what she said). Just take your time if your pouring from a bottle. The perfect pour takes time and the ideal is about two minutes so that the foam can properly settle.
