Police Warn of 'Contract Killer' Scam

February 1, 2019

We thought the 'Join the Illuminati' scam was bad, but police in Monroe County, Tennessee have warned local residents of an inventive new money scam that has surfaced.

In the scam, someone contacts you who claims to be a hired assassin who has been sent to kill you. If you agree to pay a large sum of money, the assassin will call off the hit and not kill you. No word on if the assassin lets you know who is out to get you.

So far, targets have reported being asked for sums ranging between $3,000 to $100,000. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says to beware of being contacted by email or text message.

“If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a ‘contract killer,’ hang up the phone and report it to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center.” If you have fallen victim to the contract killer scam report it through the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center website by clicking here.
