BDSC Best of 2018

January 1, 2019

With 2018 now behind us, it's time to reflect on the past year and think about where you have been and where you are going. For us, we had a good year with plenty of support from our readers and want to build on that in 2019. We promise lots of sexy women and a little bit of tech news, but plan to ramp up our UFO's and conspiracy theories - after all that's our bread and butter. Looking back at 2018, it was a good year full of strange news but let us focus on the positives here and look at the best of everything for the year. Check out our favorite things and top stories below.

Best Movie: Venom

In our opinion, there's not a lot coming out of Hollywood worth seeing. So the competition for this years best movie was slim. We settled on Amazing Spiderman offshoot Venom. No, it didn't blow us away but it was solid. Tom Hardy did a nice job as Eddie Brock, a guy who is dealing with demons so to speak in the form of an alien symbiote who has taken residence in his body. It was a little darker than most of the Marvel creations we have seen, which shows that the comic company may be altering its movies to compete with the more adult oriented DC offerings.

If we had to pick a Netflix release, Bird Box was mostly worth the press it has received. 45 million viewers can't be wrong, right? The movie had us hooked until the ending, which left us a little disappointed. Speaking of Netflix only releases, have you seen You? We binged the whole series in one sitting. Based on the novel by Caroline Kepnes, a book store manager uses social media to make a woman fall in love with him. Check it out here. You gets our vote for TV show of the year.

Best Dressed: Post Malone

No best of list would be complete without a best dressed, so we are giving this years honor to Post Malone. The guy dresses like Pee Wee Herman beat up Kurt Cobain then ran away from home to join a hip hop biker gang. And we mean that with all due respect because Pee Wee Herman is the shit.  You might not like Malone's style, but you have to say it's unique. We also like Posty because he comes across as down to earth, supports the second amendment, and just might be a conspiracy theorists since he did call out the US Government

Best Conspiracy Theory: David Hogg is also Adam Lanza

If you spend time as much time on Facebook conspiracy groups as we do, you'll come across a lot of really off the wall stuff - and we are not just talking about Flat Earth Theory. We saw some suggestions that gun control advocate and mass shooting survivor David Hogg is also the mass shooter from Sandy Hook, Adam Lanza. We took a good hard look at the conspiracy and wrote about it here. Honorable mention goes to the suggestion that there are hidden meanings in the Volkswagen logo

Best UFO News: "GO FAST" footage of Navy Jet Chasing Unidentified Flying Object

Well, we are still waiting for that rock solid evidence that proves UFO's exist - but we may have taken a step towards disclosure in 2018 with the release of footage called "GO FAST". It was brought to light by To The Stars Academy of Arts and Science, an organization run by the controversial Tom DeLonge (formally of punk pop band Blink 182). The Defense Department footage was released under a FOIA request and shows an F/A-18 Super Hornet's following the "high-speed flight of an unidentified aircraft." Luis Elizondo, the former head of the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program who now works at To The Stars Academy, says "These are just three videos now that have come out that everybody's looking at" ... "But there is far more compelling evidence that I was privy to that -- you know, I think you're looking at the tip of the iceberg." Maybe 2019 is the year we make contact.

Best What is Sexy: Iskra Lawrence

It seemed as if 2018 was the year of the plus sized girl. Curvy women everywhere found their stride and gained mainstream acceptance. We are glad to see some ladies with meat on their bones because we all knew that real men like curves. Yeah, Ashley Graham leads the charge in the plus sized movement, but a relative new comer started making waves and it was like love at first sight when we saw the thicc blonde. We introduced BDSC readers to Iskra Lawrence back in February, then followed that up with a second feature focused on her dance moves. We think 2019 is going to be a big one for Iskra so she gets our vote for What is Sexy girl of the year. Honorable mention goes to Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima who decided to retire this year

Best Music Video: BEELZE BUDDIES Dog Metal

Yes, technically, Beelze Buddies hit the scene in late 2017, but 2018 was their year. The metal loving pooches grew their fan base and released a series of Black Metal themed ads for a line of dog accessories that we covered in an article recently. We think the videos are better than a lot of what coming out in the metal scene right now so check them out.

Best Metal Album: It's a Three Way Tie

Were metal fans, and even though the genre feels a little stale right now there are some good records coming out if you really dig deep. Sludge band Sleep released their first full length new album since the iconic 'Dopesmoker' from 1999.  'The Sciences’ continues where their 420 fueled doom classic left off - blessing us with six new tracks all worthy of listening to.

Ghost tends to be a love it or hate it band in metal circles - but 2018's ‘Prequelle’ might just convert non-believers. It's an unmistakable Ghost album, though shows signs of maturity (to sound like a music snob for a minute) after the turmoil the band has faced in the last two years. The band continues its form of musical madness by combining disco, prog, and metal with a little saxophone this time around. If you don't know who Ghost is, ‘Prequelle’ is a great jump on point.

If we have to pick just one metal album of 2018, it's going to be Deafheaven, 'Ordinary Corrupt Human Love'. You never know what you're going to get with this band - and that's a good thing. We first were introduced to them as a co-headliner on tour with grindcore masters Carcass, and have followed Deafheaven ever since. Known for combining a black metal ethic with a Weezer-esque shoegazer vibe, this time around we get a taste of Queen and Journey - with double bass drums and black metal vocals. Sound crazy? It is, but it works. Deafheaven is keeping metal interesting.

Funniest Prank: Kitty Kat Dick

We like to keep things light hearted around the office and thus, we are always on the look out for a new prank. Who knows when the Kitty Kat Dick prank was invented - but we found it in 2018. Ever since discovering it co-workers everywhere have fell victim to the hilarious drawing. That makes it prank of the year. Check it out here if you don't know what it is.

Other Best Of's

There was a lot of strange news this year, but one of the weirdest stories we saw was a guy who injected silicone into his balls - and died. Best cell phone of of 2018? Move over I-Phone, the LG V40 gets our vote after one of our writers put it to the test.
