Signs You are Eating Too Much Sugar

SIGNS YOU ARE EATING TO MUCH SUGAR

 

Anyone can suffer from having high sugar levels and may not notice the damage being done to their nerves, blood vessels, and organs.  In general people think if they aren't diabetic there is nothing to worry about, but having high blood sugar levels can cause severe and life threatening issues. That's why it's so important to be aware of your body and recognize the symptoms of more serious issues. This preventive approach gives you  time to take action before you develop diabetes and obesity. There are several warning signs that your blood sugar levels and sugar intake are too high. Here are the most common:

 

Frequent Urination -  When you have diabetes, excess sugar (glucose) builds up in your blood which forces your kidneys to work overtime to filter and absorb the excess sugar.  More trips to the bathroom, often in the middle of the night, affects your sleep as you can't make it through the night without going pee!!

 

Dry Mouth, Excessive Thirst - A dry mouth is not only a symptom of high blood sugar, but it can also be the cause of it.  All that excessive urination means the body is always in a dehydrated state, sapping you of energy throughout the day. That of course means even more sleepiness and sleep trouble. As you can see the circle just keeps repeating as increased sugar levels wreck havoc on your body. Water, water, water!!!  

 

Constant Hunger - High blood sugar prevents glucose from entering your cells causing your body to not receive the energy it normally would after healthy eating. This signals your brain to repeatedly demand food - it’s a vicious cycle where you eat then shortly later feel hungry again as your body demands more sugar to feel full. Of course, this constant intake of calories leads to weight gain and eventually obesity. 

 

Increased Fatigue - When your blood sugar levels are high, the body does not store or absorb glucose properly causing inefficient energy usage. Poor absorption of vital nutrients means that the body and cells are lacking the fuel they need to keep going, making you feel tired all the time.  

 

Dry Skin - Localized itching is often caused by diabetes. It can be caused by a yeast infection,dry skin, or poor circulation.  Excessive urination dehydrates the body so much that skin begins to dry.  Damaged nerves can disrupt the normal operation of the sweat glands affecting the skin-water balance, therefore drying out the skin.

 

Blurred Vision - Blurred vision is caused by the dehydrating effect of high blood sugar levels which affects the cells of the eye: the eyes  deform and lose the ability to focus from the dehydration.  Having high blood sugar is one of the leading causes of blindness.  We here at BDSC are very giving but are not taking collections for seeing eye dogs on your behalf!

 

Infectious Diseases - People with diabetes often develop infections as high blood sugar levels weaken their immune system and ability to fight disease.  Diabetes related health issues, such as nerve damage and reduced blood flow to the extremities, increase the body's vulnerability to infection. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) and yeast infections are more often found in women with high sugar levels and diabetes because a large amount of sugar creates a favorable environment for the reproduction of yeasts and bacteria. 

 

Slow Healing - High levels of blood glucose caused by diabetes can over time affect the nerves (neuropathy) and lead to poor blood circulation, making it hard for blood - needed for skin repair - to reach areas of the body affected by sores or wounds.  This results in many diabetics having to have limbs removed. If you notice that a scrape or cut takes a long time to heal, you may be pre-diabetic and should see a doctor to rule out other causes. 

 

Concentrating Difficulties -  High glucose levels causes the blood vessels to be less responsive to the demand placed on it by the brain. The body places a priority on vital organs like the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys so the brain is low on the list and mental fogginess, grogginess, and difficulty concentrating develop. 

 

Irritability -  The brain depends on an equal supply of glucose, so spikes in blood sugar negatively affect the performance of the brain causing anxiety, irritability, and depression.  Having high sugar levels also affects the absorption of chromium which is necessary in maintaining stable levels of blood sugar because insulin cannot work properly without it.

 

Impotence - Hey boys, having high blood glucose levels can cause difficulties maintaining an erection.  A healthy erection requires healthy nerves, good blood flow, and proper balance of hormones. If you find that you have a hard time performing when you need to, and stress isn't a factor, see a doctor to rule out diabetes and high blood sugar.

As you can see, high blood sugar is not something to think twice about. Overtime, it's pretty obvious that some serious health consequences will develop sooner rather than later from the repeated abuse of your body. Drink as much water as possible to quench your thirst. Start out slow by reducing your intake of sugary soft drinks and teas, opting for unsweetened versions. Diet sodas are not a better option as they have their own risks. Start a moderate exercise program to increase circulation and increase metabolism to help your body shed pounds and sugars.
